Frequently Asked Questions

The train journey takes approximately two hours one way, travelling through the rainforest, across bridges and through tunnels as it climbs from sea level to Kuranda.

Allow around 1½ hours for the Skyrail journey if you stop at the rainforest stations and explore along the way. The cableway provides spectacular views over the rainforest and Barron Gorge.

Yes. Combining Skyrail and the Kuranda Scenic Railway is one of the most popular ways to visit Kuranda. Many organised day tours include both experiences along with transfers and free time in Kuranda.

Either direction is a fantastic experience. Your choice may depend on the tour package, departure times and how much time you would like to spend exploring Kuranda.

Skyrail travels above the rainforest canopy, so passengers should be comfortable with heights. The gondolas are enclosed and provide a stable way to experience the rainforest from above.

Advance booking is recommended, particularly during school holidays and busy travel periods. Popular tour packages combining both experiences can sell out, so booking ahead is a good idea.

Skyrail will be operating a loop experience between Kuranda Terminal and Barron Falls from 19th August to 1st November (5 days a week, Wednesday-Sunday, boarding between 10:00 and 15:30) as part of Stage 1 of our upgrade project. This experience will last for approximately 1 hour, including time at Barron Falls Station, where guests will be able to enjoy the following activities and experiences: Ranger Guided Tours, Interpretive Displays, The Edge Lookout, Historical Precinct and Audio Guide App.
