Green Island has a long and rich tourism history and has always been one of the most popular tours to the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns. Being a coral cay, it was created by the wind and wave action and is in fact the only coral cay on the whole reef to support it's own rainforest ecosystem. |
| This full day option is popular with families, time-short visitors and non-swimmers alike, however we're sure that pretty much anyone would enjoy this cruise. The island features beautiful white sandy beaches as well as large shaded boardwalk areas, so everyone should be able to find their own perfect place to relax and take in the sights of this tropical paradise. Included in the basic cruise price is the choice of either a half hour glass bottom boat ride or the use of snorkelling gear whilst on the island. If you want both you can have choose both options (for a small fee) - you will have enough time to experience both options.
The snorkelling is perfect for kids and/or beginners, as you enter the water directly from the beach, not having to jump into deep water as with boat based reef cruises. There is lots of supervision on offer and buoyancy vests are available for poorer swimmers.

Additional OptionsThere are some great options available on this tour. If you're not planning on spending your whole time snorkelling we highly recommend you choose the PAK 3 or PAK 4 option that includes the Semi Submarine. It's a half hour mini-tour and while similar to the Glass Bottom Boat, it gives you a much better view of the fish and coral.
Basically with a glass bottom boat you are looking through the floor, while with the semi-submarine you are actually seated below the waters surface and looking out the windows. It's almost like a divers eye view without the hassle of all the gear. |
LunchA tropical buffet lunch is served onboard in air conditioned comfort with options for everone including vegetarians. It's been designed to both reflect the Queensland tropical lifestyle, as well as to satisfy the taste buds of the different nationalities who visit Green Island. A fully stocked bar is also available, with local beer, wines, juices as well as soft drinks for the kids. A selection of snacks is available from the bar as well as scoop ice cream. Lunch is served from 11.30am to 1.00pm, giving you ample time for other activities. Lunch is included in both the PAK 2 and PAK 4 options.

If snorkelling, glass bottom boats or semi submarines aren't enough for you there is also the opportunity to try the Boat Snorkel Trip. With this option you'll be taken further out on the Green Island Reef on the dive boat to snorkel in deeper water. This options great for the more experienced snorkellers or stronger swimmers.
If you'd like to try scuba diving them what about an Introductory Scuba Dive. No experience is neccessary and all gear is supplied. You'll be given a short lesson then away you go. On offer is also the Seawalker. It's a modern take on old style helmet diving. It's loads of fun and you won't even get your hair wet! |
| First Established in 1954 and home to 'Cassius' - the worlds largest captive crocodile, Marineland Melanesia is well worth a look. It also features many amazing Melanesian Artifacts as well as an enviable collection of historic marine and nautical pieces. Marineland Melanesia also features a gift shop featuring handmade gemstone and/or coral jewellery created on Green Island, as well as all the usual supplies for a great day on the reef.
Crocodile Feeding Times
