Day 1 - Cairns to Cooktown via Wet Tropics & Atherton Tablelands

Departing your accommodation, we start our journey by ascending the Lamb Range above Cairns with amazing views over the city and beyond. We arrive at Copperlode Dam and Lake Morris, an extremely picturesque lake surrounded by rainforest-covered mountains; this is Cairns water supply catchment. Our exclusive permit allows us to continue beyond this point and 4WD through the rainforest and river crossings; we see spectacular plant life in this area including rare King Ferns, one of our earliest vascular plant forms dating back 325 million years. Away from the crowds and in a World Heritage Rainforest area, we’ll visit our Clohesy Boardwalk where you’ll view amazing plant life including giant Strangler Fig Trees. Venturing on to the Northern Tablelands, we visit a local working coffee plantation. Here we’ll learn all about the growing of coffee with a presentation and tour before a delightful morning tea of coffee (grown on site of course) and scones. Continuing north into the historic goldfields area we’ll stop for lunch at the Palmer River Roadhouse. The vegetation changes at each stage of our journey and we get a real taste of outback as we continue on towards Cooktown to the mysterious Black Mountain National Park. We then climb some rugged terrain for a visit to Archer Point Lighthouse-a beacon to guide ships along the Great Barrier Reef. From here we will head to Cooktown to our accommodation at the beautiful Sovereign Hotel. (includes lunch and dinner)

Day 2 - Explore Cooktown

After an early breakfast, we enjoy a relaxing town tour of Cooktown before heading up Grassy Hill to the lookout for fantastic views over Cooktown and its famous "River of Gold". It’s then onto the Historic Captain James Cook Museum, which is one of Queensland’s best museums, showcasing the remarkable history of the town. The Museum follows the story of Captain James Cook's enforced seven-week stay at the Endeavour River, during which the first meaningful contact between Europeans and Indigenous Australians took place, to the rush, as well as personal stories and items from Cooktown’s early residents. Now that you have been enriched in Australia's true history, we then head down to the Lion Den Hotel for lunch and a refreshing drink (own expense). This is a true aussie icon and is built on the banks of the little Annan River surrounded by 100 year old mango tress. Sign the wall like hundreds of visitor's from all over Australia and the world have done for many years. From here we will head south towards Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest. Engaging 4WD we travel the famous Bloomfield Track enjoying many scenic spots including Bloomfield Falls, Cedar Bay National Park, a boardwalk and more. After arriving at Cape Tribulation, you are free to take a walk on the beach and head up to Kulki lookout. We then head towards our overnight accommodation.(includes breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Day 3 - Cape Tribulation to Cairns/Port Douglas via the Captain Cook Highway

After a leisurely breakfast, we continue our journey toward Thornton Beach; this sits adjacent to Queensland's fourth highest mountain, Thornton Peak. We offer an optional stop at the famous Daintree Ice Cream Company to sample some of their homemade tropical fruit ice creams (own expense), then we continue along the Cape Tribulation road to Alexandra Lookout for spectacular views over the Daintree River mouth and beyond to Low Isles, Snapper Island and Port Douglas. We arrive at the famous Daintree River for our cable ferry crossing and on to the Daintree Tea House for a special lunch at one of the Daintree region’s oldest established restaurants with a choice to try their delicious Barramundi (fish) specialty served with exotic tropical fruits (other menu items are available). After lunch, we’ll experience the Daintree River close up when we take our river cruise with a local, naturalist guide. You never know what you’ll see with a variety of flora and fauna and of course, crocodiles. Finally, we head south along the scenic Captain Cook Highway with an optional stop at Mossman Gorge (the south-east corner of the Daintree World Heritage area). Further on we travel through Mossman’s sugar cane fields to drop you back at your Port Douglas or Cairns accommodation by the early evening. (includes breakfast and lunch)
