Frequently Asked Questions

Pro Dive Cairns specialises in three-day, two-night liveaboard trips to the Outer Great Barrier Reef. Guests can book as certified divers, snorkellers or students completing a scuba diving course. The company also offers reef day trips and additional training options.
The liveaboard visits selected sites across the Flynn, Milln, Pellowe and Thetford Reefs. The crew chooses dive locations according to conditions, visibility and the suitability of each site for the group.
Yes. Pro Dive offers PADI Open Water courses for beginners, combining theory, pool training and open-water training dives on the Great Barrier Reef. You do not need previous scuba diving experience to start the beginner course.
There are several formats. The standard course takes five days, while an eLearning option takes four days. A three-day reef referral option is available for students who have already completed the required theory and pool training with a qualified instructor
Courses include Advanced Open Water, Enriched Air Nitrox, Rescue Diver and professional training such as Divemaster. The available course format and duration depend on your current certification and the training selected.
Yes. Snorkellers can join selected trips and enjoy the reef from the surface while certified divers explore underwater. Snorkelling conditions depend on the site and weather, and guests should follow the crew's safety instructions.
Students must demonstrate the required swimming and water-confidence skills. Pro Dive's published course requirements include swimming 200 metres or snorkelling 300 metres without stopping, followed by floating or treading water for 10 minutes. Confirm the current requirements when booking.

“I was nervous before starting my Open Water course, but the instructors made me feel comfortable and safe from the beginning. The diving was incredible, with turtles, reef sharks, manta rays and colourful fish. The crew were patient and supportive, and there was no pressure to progress faster than I felt comfortable with. I came away completely hooked on diving.”
