Overview

Experience the incredible diversity of Far North Queensland on Discovery Tours' 3-day Cooktown, Daintree & Outback adventure. Travelling in a comfortable 4WD with a small group and knowledgeable local guide, this tour combines ancient rainforest, rugged outback landscapes, fascinating history and some of the region's most spectacular scenery.

The journey begins in Cairns and travels north through the Atherton Tablelands, Mareeba and the Savannah country before continuing towards historic Cooktown. Along the way, enjoy rainforest scenery, scenic lookouts, the Palmer River Roadhouse and a visit to Archer Point Lighthouse. In Cooktown, explore the town's fascinating history, visit the James Cook Museum and take in the views from Grassy Hill.

Day two follows the famous Bloomfield Track towards Cape Tribulation, with stops including the Lion's Den Hotel, Bloomfield Falls and scenic rainforest locations along the way. There is also time to explore Cape Tribulation Beach and experience the meeting point of the ancient Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef.

On the final day, discover more of the Daintree, including Thornton Beach and Alexandra Lookout, before crossing the Daintree River and joining a guided wildlife cruise. Keep an eye out for crocodiles and native birdlife before enjoying lunch in the rainforest. The journey continues to Mossman Gorge for a guided walk exploring the rainforest and its connection to Kuku Yalanji culture, before returning south along the spectacular Captain Cook Highway.

Day 1: Cairns to Cooktown via Wet Tropics & Atherton Tablelands After pickup, travel over the Kuranda Range for spectacular views across Cairns and the Coral Sea. Continue by 4WD through rainforest and river crossings to the Clohesy River World Heritage Rainforest Boardwalk, where you'll see a giant Strangler Fig. Travel through Mareeba, Mount Molloy and Mount Carbine to Bob's Lookout, stopping for morning tea along the way. Continue into the Savannah Country for lunch at Palmer River Roadhouse, then head north along the Mulligan Highway past the mysterious Black Mountains. Turn off-road to visit historic Archer Point Lighthouse before continuing to Cooktown for your overnight stay.
